Abstract In this doctoral diseertation, the contextualization of a theoretical framework for export competitiveness reveals the fact that there is a lack of consensus at the supragovernmental level on a unique concept, indicating that a multi-focus vision must be taken for its analysis. The analysis on the tempotal evolution of the different definitions of competitiveness in the international context provided in the economic literature was carried out taking special care in definitions provided by public administrations or organizations. In the development of empirical framework, some definitions of competitiveness in the international context were selected as the most relevant.
