This article analyses the subtitling of a documentary Los niños de Rusia “The Children of Russia”, (José Camino, 2001) by using a discourse analysis approach and exploring the skopos of the text. My aim is to identify which transformations are more likely to occur when oral discourse is reduced as a consequence of space and time limits of audiovisual translation. The analysis reveals a tendency to consider repetition of linguistic features redundant, thus favouring deletion of these forms regardless of their illocutionary force.
