RESUMEN:
Introducción. En los últimos años, el número de procedimientos con cirugía plástica ha aumentado en los países occidentales debido a las nuevas nociones de belleza impulsadas. En el caso de los genitales femeninos, ha surgido un ideal específico y una visión estereotipada sobre cómo deberían ser, existiendo multitud de intervenciones destinadas a alcanzar una apariencia más deseable o a mejorar el funcionamiento sexual. En la actualidad, pocos estudios se han interesado por cómo afecta la autoimagen genital femenina a la respuesta sexual. Esto invita a cuestionarse cuál es la percepción de las mujeres sobre la apariencia y el funcionamiento de sus genitales, así como, los motivos que les llevan a realizarse ciertos procedimientos o el modo en que les perjudica ciertas enfermedades como el cáncer de vulva.
