La obtención de doble haploides mediante ginogénesis es una novedosa técnica que se utiliza dentro del campo de la mejora vegetal, la cual se basa en la producción de embriones haploides a partir de células del gametofito femenino, siempre y cuando no haya ocurrido el proceso de fecundación. Una vez obtenidas las plantas haploides, se obtienen individuos doble haploides por un proceso de duplicación cromosómica que puede ser espontáneo o inducido y que da lugar a plantas homocigotas para todos sus loci. En este trabajo, se ha llevado a cabo una revisión bibliográfica sobre las diferentes técnicas de ginogénesis que se utilizan en Cucumis melo y Cucumis sativus, dos de los cultivos más importantes dentro de la familia. La metodología comúnmente más empleada en C. melo para la obtención de plantas haploides es la técnica de ginogénesis in situ inducida por polen irradiado, a pesar del inconveniente que representan la adquisición del aparataje para la irradiación del polen.
