2021-06Abstract
Los venenos animales constituyen importantes recursos naturales para el desarrollo de agentes terapéuticos. La composición de los venenos incluye péptidos y proteínas que pueden dirigirse a varios canales iónicos, receptores y transportadores celulares de forma específica y potencial, y modificar su función. Este hecho ha arrojado luz sobre la investigación venómica y las aplicaciones de las toxinas animales como potenciales candidatos a fármacos en el tratamiento de enfermedades humanas. En esta revisión, se resumen los principales aspectos biológicos de los venenos animales y las principales aplicaciones terapéuticas de los mismos, incluyendo enfermedades cancerosas, neurodegenerativas, cardiovasculares, autoinmunes, así como dolor neuropático. Por otro lado, también se discuten los retos y las perspectivas en el desarrollo de fármacos a base de toxinas animales.
