2021Abstract
La provincia de Almería, al sur de España, ha sufrido una modificación
agrícola, increíblemente rápida en la última mitad del siglo XX. Pasando de
ser una agricultura de secano con cultivos característicos como cereales,
olivo, vid o cítricos, a convertirse en el lugar con mayor superficie cubierta de
invernaderos del mundo. Almería cuenta en la actualidad con más de 35 000
ha de área cubierta de invernaderos. Otro factor importante a tener en cuenta
en esta transformación ha sido la mano de obra. El sector está basado
principalmente en empresas familiares, dedicadas principalmente a la
producción de vegetales en invernadero bajo plástico. La rápida expansión del
área cubierta ha provocado un rápido incremento de la demanda de personal,
así como grandes retos ecológicos para la zona (Mota et al., 1996; QuintasSoriano et al., 2014). El sector agrícola representa más del 40% del PIB de la
