Introduction: The global pandemic of COVID-19 has led to a radical change of hospitals, more specifically of special services such as Intensive Care Units (ICU), where it has taken root with all the pillars of humanization and quality care that had been established over the years, giving rise to a bleak panorama that in addition to influencing the health and well-being of patients and relatives, has largely affected all health facilities that have given themselves the skin to try to provide quality care. Objectives: The objective of this study was to know how the pandemic has affected the humanization of care in ICU patients. Methodology: An integrative bibliographic review was carried out between February and April 2022 in the PubMed database. Results: A total of 8 articles were obtained from which six analysis topics were extracted: few human, material and protection resources; isolation, affecting patients, relatives and nurses; use of technologies that supplement the deficiencies caused by isolation; psychological problems in patients and relatives; dehumanization of care by the use of EPIS and isolation and containment protocols; nursing, an admirable human work. Discussion: The rapid spread of the virus produced problems at the hospital level such as lack of resources, which resulted in a dehumanization of care and a great physical and psychological affect to patients and nurses, in addition to isolation protocols, which affected the relatives, and other measures such as the use of technological devices to facilitate communication were needed. Conclusions: It is essential to implement all these improvement projects and focus on finding new forms of human care adapted to this new normal situation. | es_ES |
