This study seeks to understand the impact and behaviour of the so-called Cancellation Culture1, a new phenomenon closely linked to social networks and established as a communication strategy of pressure groups towards individuals and/or companies, organisations and/or groups, in the Spanish university environment. The interest arises from the need to understand a phenomenon that is as new as it is viral, that is, one that spreads very quickly on social networks via the Internet, and that is driven even more strongly by the dynamism and functioning of a globalised world. The complex current communication ecosystem, together with the interaction on social networks that structures the different actors involved in any company or project, makes it pertinent to define, detect, decipher and distinguish the phenomenon of cancellation culture that affects individuals, groups and institutions. Cancellation actions pursue a certain behaviour on the part of the pressured agent, on the one hand; and/or the erasure/suppression of cultural products and/or materials that are considered alien to the contemporary social demands of those who exert such pressure, on the other hand. | es_ES |
