dc.description.abstractThis article questions about the epiphany as a central literary resource of the novel The Tunnel, by the Argentine writer Ernesto Sabato. Those fragments are analyzed starting from a pictorial image: «Maternities», created by the protagonist Juan Pablo Castel, which triggers a «revelation of meaning» that changes the way painting and literature are thought. The epiphany goes beyond being a mere aesthetic resource which has the ability to reveal the perspective not only of the artist, but of the receiver as well as a figure needed to finish the work of creation. El túnel is considered as an authentic treaty about the art of the twentieth century.es_ES
