2021Abstract
La tripanosomiasis americana es la enfermedad parasitaria más grave de América del Sur. Conocida como la enfermedad de Chagas, es producida por el protozoo parásito Trypanosoma cruzi y ha causado millones de muertes desde su descubrimiento hace más de un siglo. Las medidas adoptadas para prevenir la enfermedad han disminuido el número de casos, aunque en la actualidad se considera que hay entre 6 y 7 millones de personas infectadas por T. cruzi. Actualmente, los dos fármacos utilizados frente al parásito presentan una elevada toxicidad y producen numerosos efectos adversos. Esto hace necesaria la búsqueda de nuevos fármacos frente a diferentes dianas moleculares en el parásito que estén exentos de toxicidad o que sean menos tóxicos que los actuales utilizados.
En el presente trabajo se recogen las principales enzimas y rutas metabólicas del parásito consideradas como dianas terapéuticas frente a las que se han diseñado, sintetizado y evaluado la acción de nuevos compuestos.
