2011Resumen
In this paper we discuss the new proposal, endorsed by Malcolm Heath, that Sulpicius Victor should be dated to the 2nd century AD. We argue that the quotation of Rhet. Her. I 2,3 and I 1,1, present in Sulp. Vict. Rhet. 4, p. 315,6-13 H. and ascribed to "Tullius", can offer a terminus post quem for Sulpicius work, since, according to Calboli, Saint Jerome was responsible for the attribution of the Rhetorica ad Herennium to Cicero, and it took place for the first time in his Commentarius in Abdiam, written in AD 396. We also examine literary and doctrinal features that support this new chronology, mainly Sulpicius' ciceronianism and the relationship between this work and the declamationes.
